» HI Brian,

I just couldn't be happier with our experience working with Brian Immke at Adept Studios. We've had two shoots, both for book covers. Brian had all the details worked out in advance before each shoot. One of our shoots involved placing the models at just the right angle and perspective so they could later be Photoshopped into an existing background. Brian had everything worked out perfectly and the end result looks amazing. The quality of the images is fantastic and I never felt rushed or under any time/budget pressure. Brian commits to getting the right shots. At one point he finished the shoot, we had about 120 shots to choose from, and then he suggested we add a fan to bring movement to the photos. He then shot the 120 photos again with the fan because he knew it was going to give us much better photos to choose from. Great work!

» Brian with Adept Studios shot my wedding back in October, 2009, and to say that I was pleased with the results was an understatement! When we had our initial consultation, I had just asked that our pictures not be the typical posed shots that you see in most albums. Granted, I felt comfortable when I saw his previous work in his studio in Ft. Lauderdale, but you only have your one moment. When we were shooting together, I was so comfortable, even when there were poses that we were not sure were going to turn out. And sure enough, some of my favorite pictures are of my now husband and I caught 'candid,' in amazing light, in wonderful, comfortable and loving, natural moments.

I am also a Flight Attendant, and of course, my pictures are on Facebook. (Plus, my husband and I both are from out of state, so this way our friends could enjoy our pictures if they couldn't attend the wedding.) But, I cannot tell you how many times I have been stopped by flight crew in terminals thru-out the world, that I didn't know to tell me how beautiful our wedding pictures were! I of course agreed...

I have to add a side note. Every wedding has a disaster, or some scheduling problem, etc. Mine was no different. Our venue ended up being somewhat undesirable, even though in the beginning, it was every bride's dream. After two weeks of hell trying trying to make this place 'doable,' with everything working against us, we forged ahead, with no other options. Looking back at my pictures at that night, Brian made that place look like it did when we first secured it fourteen months before. I cannot thank him enough for that.

You are truly a class act and a breath of fresh air for the burgeoning photographer. I have been intently pursuing my part time photo career for about 3 years. However I have had cameras since I was in middle school 79-82. My dad finally trusted me with his AE-1 one day and I fell in love. Then there was the T70, the Minoltas, Mamiyas and finally my beloved Nikons.
I know you don't have the time for my bio so I'll keep it brief. The "fresh air" I mentioned earlier was referring to your helpful attitude and wisdom that floods your site. When you surf as many photo web site as I have, you learn to accept the holier-than-thou arrogance that a lot of pro's have these days. I meet pros like yourself from time to time, but they are few and far between.

I really loved your article! I just wish that I could live my dreams up! I feel like I have so many things holding me back! I feel as if this industry is soooooo hard to get into, because there is plenty of beautiful girls out there trying to pursue the same dreams as me! And it really sucks because not only do I feel that way, but my parents do as well. I want to prove them so wrong but deep down inside of me I know I can't! Like I also have physical things holding me back, like my legs, they don't have scars on them or anything but they aren't just perfect spotless legs either, and I had surgery on my stomach when I was little and....I just know things like that make a difference and make an impact on what I want to achieve! So many things are going wrong, I can't find work, I don't even know how to get started, then I want to do runway but I am not tall enough and how are models successful when they aren't on runway? I read your article on the internet, and I'm just writing to thank you for being one of the few people who wrote an article to genuinely help aspiring models, rather than attempting to gain money from them or dash their hopes!
Several other websites I've visited has promised immediate fame and stardom ...after paying their joining fees, paying more for their modeling classes and signing exclusive contracts both with the agency and their photographer.
So, thanks again! I'm 17, and I'm an aspiring glamour model. I would like to do artistic and magazine nude, lingerie and swimwear etc. Obviously I can't begin glamour modeling until I'm 18, but I am still looking for photographers and agents. Your article was very helpful - thank you!
